LATA Awards 2023: Myrna Duarte

Myrna E. Duarte is the Latin Alternative Theater Award winning producer for Best Comedy Production of the year. The play “Hamlet in Harlem” written and directed by Alberto Ferreras, also won Best Direction/Comedy and Best Ensemble. Ferreras & María Fernanda Rodríguez also are the recipients of the Best Production Award. The play had two successful seasons at TNC and most recently at Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture.
Myrna E. Duarte has been a part of the New York theater scene for most of her life as a set designer, costume designer and producer. Some of her credits include practical designs for the Broadway production of Rent, set designs for the Obie nominated James Purdy‘s Sun of The Sleepless and Tennessee Williams Chalky White Substance / The Travelling Companion, Bessie nominated A window on the Nether Sea, producer of Behind the Counter with Mussolini, co-writer/co-director of Franca Vercelloni‘s Classically Train and Practically Broke, creator of Theater for the New City’s pandemic response outdoor series Open Tho Shut. Myrna is thrilled to be working on Alberto Ferreras Hamlet in Harlem.
